#LatinaGeeks featured in Diversity In Action Magazine https://latinageeks.com/news/latinageeks-tanya-salcido-featured-in-diversity-in-action-magazine-sept-oct-2019/ Sat, 14 Sep 2019 07:34:24 +0000 https://latinageeks.com/?post_type=news&p=9761 September 2019 – There are more than 5 million Latino-owned businesses across the United States according to a report released by the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative—technology being one of those business categories. Although there are millions of Latino-owned businesses, the lack of STEM representation is even more prevalent among Hispanics who as a whole have only earned 8 percent of degrees in STEM fields. Latinas hold a mere 2 percent of the computing workforce. With the growing focus of Latinas in STEM roles and businesses, it’s no surprise organizations such as #LatinaGeeks have received a strong embrace from communities throughout the United States. Tanya Salcido, #LatinaGeeks co-founder, sat down with Diversity in Action magazine to share her journey into STEM and how #LatinaGeeks is working towards the advancement of Latinas in STEM-focused roles and businesses.
